Venton “Bernie” Upton, 79, of Moores Hill, IN, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023.
He was born September 25, 1943, in Aurora, IN, son of the late John Upton and Evelyn (Lipscomb) Upton Chapin.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Bernie worked in maintenance for I & M Power Plant, retiring after over 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #71, and a founding member of the Moores Hill Church of Christ.
Bernie is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years, Wanda (Newman) Upton, daughters, Missi (Phil) Plunkett, Venita (Eric) Gosmeyer; grandchildren, Ryan and Ian Plunkett and Jeremy Reynolds (Christie); great-grandchild, Andrew Reynolds; sister, Gladys Gibbs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Upton and Evelyn (Leroy) Chapin; and brothers, Eugene, Bob, & Leonard.
Friends will be received Friday, September 8, 2023, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Moores Hill Church of Christ, 13567 State Road 350, Moores Hill, IN.
Services will be held at the church on Saturday at 11:00 am with Pastor Tito Pel and Pastor Rex Dunning officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Aurora, IN. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
