Audrey Louise Hornberger, of Sunman was born on September 6, 1941, in Batesville, a daughter to Robert and Helen Cook Schene. She graduated from Batesville High School and later married Lester Hornberger, and together they raised two sons. In addition to caring for her family, Audrey had jobs outside the home as well – she worked at a sewing factory in Greensburg, at McPhersons, and drove a school bus. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending yard sales, auctions, and flea markets looking for antiques. Audrey loved canning foods, but above all else she loved spending time with her grandchildren. On Monday, August 28, 2023, at the age of 81, she passed away surrounded by her loving family at her residence.
Those surviving who will cherish Audrey’s memory include her husband, Lester Hornberger; children, Darrin (Shirley) Hornberger of Osgood, Dwayne (Becky) Hornberger of Sunman; grandchildren, Sydney Hornberger, Zakary Hornberger; step-grandchildren, Kyle Sloan, Ryan Sloan and Natasha Adams, and two brothers, Jim Schene of Alaska and Jerry Schene of New Point. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Dennis Schene, Judy Martin, and Jean Snow.
Friends and family may gather and remember Audrey on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman IN 47041. Cremation will follow.
