ISP investigating fatal crash involving fire truck

(Jefferson County, IN) – Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash involving a fire truck that occurred on Clifty Hollow Road on Hanover Hill near Madison on Saturday.

The initial investigation by troopers with the ISP Crash Reconstruction Team indicated that at approximately 8:35 am, a 2005 International Fire Truck from the Hanover Fire Department driven by 69-year-old Charles Justice of Hanover responded to the area to assist in clearing dried mud from the roadway.

The fire truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Clifty Hollow Road when it struck a 2015 Toyota Rav4 driven by 44-year-old Terrie Cox of Milton, Kentucky head-on in the westbound lanes.

Cox sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Justice was not injured in the collision.

Toxicology tests are pending but alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.

Indiana State Police was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison Police Department, the Madison Fire Department, the Hanover Fire Department, the Madison Township Fire Department, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
