Carol Sue Helton, 79, of Westport, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at her residence. She was born on September 23, 1943 in Marion County, the daughter of James O. and Bernice M. (Hauersperger) Colvin. She was raised in Hayden and graduated from Seymour High School in 1961. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1964 from Indiana State University and her Master’s Degree from Indiana University. Carol was a librarian and teacher for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation for 40 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen and taught CCD classes. She was a member of the Decatur County Library Board and attended the Spirit of Women. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and was also a member of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association and Euchre Club. She enjoyed reading, riding her bicycle and cooking. She married Charlie Helton on January 30, 1965 in Seymour, Indiana. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charlie Helton; her daughter, Heather Lynn (Bradley) Weaver of Westport; sisters, Jeanne Day of Columbus and Donna Sullivan of Seymour; brothers, Dan Colvin of Columbus and John Colvin of Indianapolis and her granddaughter, Mariah Weaver. She was preceded in death by parents, Orville and Bernice Colvin; her brothers, Kenny and Jim Colvin and her sisters, Louise, Betty and Mary Kay. A private Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen with Father Binu Matthew officiating. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Helton Cemetery, 2618 W. Ox Road, Scottsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
