The Cincinnati Reds brought the fireworks offensively in their 8-4 win over the Washington Nationals today.
Jonathan India and Spencer Steer’s RBI singles kickstarted the offense in the first inning, giving Cincinnati an early 2-0 advantage.
Nick Senzel drove in 3-runs in the top of the 3rd on a home run to extend the lead to 5. Washington answered with their first run of the game by way of a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to make it a 5-1 game.
In the fourth, Jonathan India hit his first home run of the game, giving the Reds a 5-run lead once again.
Washington would cut the Reds’ lead down to 4 after Derek Hill drove in a run on a single in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the 6th, Cincinnati’s Jonathan India would hit his second home run of the game and 13th on the season to make it 7-2. However, Washington would answer with RBI singles by Joey Meneses and Corey Dickerson, making it a 7-4 game.
That would be the closest the game would get as Elly De La Cruz’s sac fly scored another run for the Reds, leading to the 8-4 final score.
Reds Rookies Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer both went 4-4.
Brett Kennedy got the win in his first start for the Cincinnati, striking out 3 and walking 2 while allowing 4 runs in 5 innings pitched.
