(Ripley County, IN) – A man is in custody following a police chase in Ripley County Thursday morning.
Indiana State Police say 22-year-old Deondrick Bailey was pulled over for speeding around 10 am on State Road 129 south of Batesville when the trooper was notified by the ISP Regional Dispatch Center in Versailles that Bailey was wanted on a warrant out of Illinois for Aggravated Use of a Firearm.
While troopers tried to get Bailey to exit his car, he took off in the vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Troopers say speeds reached 120 miles per hour during the 13-mile chase on 129.
The pursuit continued on County Road 400 East until the road ended, and ISP says Bailey drove into a cornfield and a wooded area before crashing into a fallen tree.
Bailey got out of the car and fled on foot before he was found hiding behind a residence and arrested without further incident.
He was checked out by EMS and taken to the Ripley County Jail before he was sent to Margaret Mary Health after complaining of pain.
ISP says formal charges stemming from the pursuit will be filed once Bailey is discharged from the hospital.
Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies, and officers from the Versailles, Milan, and Dillsboro police departments assisted Troopers during the pursuit and arrest.
