Brookville native, Arthur C. Feller, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, with his wife of 75 years (Marylee) by his side in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Arthur, fondly known as Art and “Boogie”, was born to Ernest and Katherine Feller on May 2, 1926, in Franklin County. He was a Brookville High School graduate and enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He served proudly and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). Art spent nearly his entire working career at Whitewater Publications in Brookville. He joined the staff as a linotype operator and would go on to become a co-owner in 1975. His great sense of humor and “never met a stranger” personality were perfect for his occupation. When Whitewater Publications took on management and publishing of the Liberty Herald, Art took the reins there until his retirement. He also served as Franklin County Township Trustee for several years. Mr. Feller loved his family, the community, and teaching his kids and their friends how to play baseball and basketball. He coached the local Little League Baseball team “White Sox” for many years, as well as basketball at St. Michael School. Art was the last living WWII Veteran of the Brookville VFW post. Throughout his lifetime in Brookville, he was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and American Legion Post#77 where he served as a member of its honor guard until moving to Indianapolis and Arizona to be closer to children. In Green Valley, AZ he became a member of the American Legion Post #131 where he was honored on his 50-year membership milestone. In retirement, time was spent enjoying the many activities and lifetime achievements of the grandchildren/great-grandchildren and traveling with his wife throughout the US and abroad. He continued to enjoy working the daily Indy Star Crossword and watching the Cincinnati Reds, Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Wildcats, and PGA golf until his final days.
Art is survived by his wife Marylee and six children, Pam Sweigart, Green Valley, AZ, Bob (Debbie) Feller, Sunman, Judy (Bill) O’Brien, Sun City, CA, Terry (Nancy) Feller, Honolulu, HI, Grady (LaDonna) Feller and Jay (Teri) Feller, Indianapolis, nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Feller, and Harold Feller, one sister, Lucille Feller, and granddaughter, Jordan Vanzant.
Services will be held in Brookville, Friday, June 16 at St. Michael Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. The Requiem Mass will be officiated by Fr. Vincent Lampert. The Feller family will host an open invitation Celebration of Life luncheon in honor of Art to be held at the K of C Hall, 332 Main St., immediately following the Mass. Mr. Feller’s interment will be at the Crown Hill National Cemetery’s Columbarium Annex on Monday, June 19 at 10 AM, 725 West 42 nd Street, Indianapolis. As a WWII veteran he will be honored with a full Military Burial Service.
