On Friday, June 2, 2023 on the farm that he loved, Jerry Vogt passed away. The son of Melvin and Oda (Broughton) Vogt was born on July 27, 1949 in Batesville, Indiana. He was 73 years old. Jerry graduated from Sunman High School in 1967. He married his sweetheart, Glenda Yorn in August 1969 at the Batesville United Methodist Church.
On the farm that’s been in his family since 1936, Jerry enjoyed the business he built with his wife, Glenda, entertaining families for generations. Over the years, he became the face of his festivals, and customers would search him out to chat. He loved sharing the farm and welcoming families; he appreciated the fact he was the cornerstone of many family traditions. Jerry knew the community was important, and generously donated to many organizations in the surrounding area.
Jerry enjoyed time with family and friends and didn’t know a stranger. His friends became members of his family. Through the years, Jerry and Glenda hosted numerous family reunions on the farm, becoming the glue that held the families together.
His passion for his animals, growing blueberries, pumpkins and flowers was abundantly clear. They were more than a business to him; they were his life. Jerry loved life and truly lived until he died. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Vogt; son, Brian Vogt (Shawn) and daughter, Sandy Stephens (Eric); grandchildren, Christian “Goose” Vogt, Matthew Vogt (Emily), Luke Stephens and Libby Stephens; great grandson, Oliver “John” Vogt along with his sister, Beverly Lamping (Francis), and brothers, Harold Vogt (Wanda) and Robert Vogt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Larry Vogt.
Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated. Friends and family may call from 10:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023 with a 2:00pm memorial service immediately following, all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Rev. Tamara Keen officiating
