Elizabeth “Betty” Dunbar, of Sunman, was born on April 6, 1946, in Batesville, a daughter to Stanley and Margaret Vogelsang Knecht. She married Melvin Dunbar on May 11, 1968, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and he survives. Betty worked at Bischoff’s Greenhouse and later at Argosy Casino. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Betty loved going to the casino, gardening, cooking, doing dishes, and playing games on her Kindle. She also enjoyed shopping at Goodwill, working puzzles and loving on her pooch, Teddy who stayed by her side till the end. On Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the age of 77, she passed away at her residence surrounded by her family.
Those surviving who will cherish Betty’s memory include her husband of 55 years, Melvin; children, Michael (Jenn) Dunbar of Sunman, Melanie (Richard) Lindsey of Moores Hill, Bethany (Bryon) Hartman of Milan, and Nicholas Dunbar of Lawrenceburg; 8 grandchildren and 11great-grandchildren with another one on the way. Also surviving are siblings, Bertie (Larry) Bauman of Sunman, Connie (Bill) Wintz of Batesville, Butch (Cathy) Knecht of Sunman, Gary (Beverly) Knecht of Greensburg, Cindy (Ralph) Ross of Milan, and Mark (Melanie) Knecht of Greensburg. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Rita Kramer and Marilyn Weller.
Friend may visit with the family on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 4 until 7pm at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 am on Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Vincent Lampert presiding and burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
