The Oldenburg Academy varsity baseball team (4-6) traveled to Southwestern (Hanover) on Monday, May 1st, and fell 10-1.
Southwestern scored on a error in the first inning, a single by William Stockdale in the first inning, and a home run by Mason Lichlyter in the second inning.
“Southwestern is a good team. Jordan DeAtley kept us off balance, and he has really good stuff. The two home runs, on a normal, are just routine fly balls. But today, the wind was blowing out of left field very strong, and they got the two balls up in the wind stream.” Coach Kolks said.
Southwestern scored three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by Southwestern was led by Stockdale, Lichlyter, and Tanner Jacobs, who all drove in runs.
DeAtley was credited with the victory for Southwestern. The pitcher allowed zero hits and one run over six innings, striking out 13.Welsh threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Jacob Stenger took the loss for Oldenburg Academy. The righty lasted five innings, allowing ten hits and ten runs while striking out four and walking zero.
Southwestern launched two home runs on the day. Lichlyter went deep in the second inning. Stockdale had a homer in the third inning.
“I’m very proud of the boys, though. They battled for all 7 innings.” Kolks added.
The Twisters will look to bounce back tonight as they travel to Seymour to take on the Cougars of Trinity Lutheran with a start time of 5:30.
