(Lawrenceburg, IN) – The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office recently purchased two Dual-Purpose Canines to add to the K-9 Unit.
The K-9 handlers traveled to Barnesville, Georgia to purchase the dogs from Arete’ Canine, a vendor that imports police and military working dogs from Europe.
The first new team is Deputy K-9 Handler Austin Jefferson and K-9 Rambo, a 16-month-old male, Belgian Malinois, and German Shepard mix imported from Hungary.
The other new team is Deputy K-9 Handler Konner Jackson and K-9 Chief, who is the same age and breed as Rambo and is from Hungary.
The Canines and their Handlers will be trained in several disciplines including drug detection, tracking/trailing, article/evidence searches, building/area searches, obedience, and criminal apprehension.
Each dog and handler began their training on March 6, 2023. under the supervision of department trainer, Deputy K-9 Handler Josh Cochran.
On April 10, 2023, each team successfully passed certification standards in the area of drug detection.
Each team will complete the rest of their training in the coming months.
