Phyllis Carson

Phyllis Ann Miller Carson, 85 years old of New Alsace, IN, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. A lifelong resident of New Alsace, Phyllis met her late husband, Robert, when he came to Indiana from Cincinnati to work on her brother’s farm. Falling in love with the area and, of course, Phyllis, Robert moved to New Alsace after serving in the Navy and they were married in November 1961 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. In 1980, Phyllis and Robert bought her brother’s farm and they continued to farm beef cattle, chickens, and crops. Phyllis was a hard worker and took a very active role in the farming duties while also raising four children. As the children got older, Phyllis began working as a cook at St. Paul’s school. She was overjoyed that all of her children lived within a half mile of her which allowed her to see her grandchildren all the time. She loved having the grandkids around and enjoyed taking care of them. Phyllis was very active in the St. Paul’s church community, praying the weekly rosary at church and was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She looked forward to her get-togethers with the Homemaker’s Club who met monthly to play cards and share dessert. Notorious for baking, Phyllis shared her famous yeast rolls with the priests as well as those she visited at the nursing homes. The family always benefited from a delicious, homemade angel food cake for their birthday. Being outside and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens were things that Phyllis enjoyed immensely. Loving to cut the grass, she only recently gave up this hobby, but still found joy in watching the birds from her window.

Phyllis will be deeply missed by her children John (Sherri) Carson, Julie Kern, James (Debby) Carson, and Janna (Jeff) Stonebraker; siblings Ruth (Paul) Back and Darlene (Jim) Phillips; grandchildren John Jr. & Jeremy (Dana) Carson, Barbara Page, Julianna (Kris) Smith, Kitley & Indy Kern, Kyle, Erin & Sara Carson, Ryley (Caleb Green) Stonebraker, Isabelle & Levi Stonebraker, 9 great grandchildren and 46 nieces and nephews; She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Carson, siblings Julius (Alma) Miller, Aaron (Edna) Miller, Joseph “Buddy” Miller, Iola (Ray) Cappel, Marie (Aaron) Zinser, Sally Thie, Lorriane (Don) Buckhave; and parents Helena & Edward Miller.
