Mason McNew strikes out 14 in South Ripley’s 2-1 win

Behind a complete game effort from freshman Mason McNew, the host South Ripley Raiders defeated the visiting Oldenburg Academy Twisters 2-1.

The pitching was strong on both sides. South Ripley’s Mason McNew got the win, allowing just 3 hits, 1 unearned run and striking 14 in 7 innings of work. Zach Hoff struck out 4 over 4 innings in the loss for the Twisters.

“Give credit to the South Ripley pitcher. He came out aggressive and challenged us with fastballs all night. 14 strikeouts with 7 of them looking is not getting the job done on our side.” Oldenburg Academy Coach Patrick Kolks said following the game.

At the plate for the Raiders, Trent Smith singled, stole two bases, and scored two runs; Brayden Dilk singled with an RBI; Brady Ruble added an infield single, and Austin Hodge scorched a double to deep left field.

Cy Muckerhide and Matthew Hesselbrock each collected one hit to lead Oldenburg Academy.

McNew picked up his first career victory for South Ripley as they even their season record to 3 wins and 3 losses. The Raiders return to action on Monday, April 17th at Southwestern Hanover.

The Twisters drop to 2-2 and will look to rebound on Saturday, April 15th, as they host the South Dearborn Knights.

We thank both schools for contributing to the game recap.
