Batesville varsity baseball nabs win over Connersville despite early 3-run inning from Spartans

Batesville varsity baseball claimed a 7-3 victory on Thursday, despite a big push by Connersville in the fourth inning. Brayden Lykins, Brayden Pearson, and Brady Cloyd powered the big inning with RBI.

The Bulldogs got things moving in the first inning. Jack Grunkemeyer grounded out, scoring one run.

Batesville tallied five runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Cade Kaiser and Chris Lewis, a sac fly by Charlie Schebler, and a double by Grunkemeyer.

Will Jaisle was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. He allowed two hits and three runs over four innings, striking out five. Eli Loichinger threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Batesville racked up ten hits in the game. Grunkemeyer, Max Baumer, Jaisle, and Lewis all managed multiple hits. Grunkemeyer led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Batesville  didn’t commit a single error in the field.

The Bulldogs return to action this Saturday against New Palestine. First pitch is at noon.
