The Oldenburg Academy Varsity Twisters baseball team claimed an 11-7 victory against Waldron on Tuesday, despite a big push by the Mohawks in the sixth inning. J.D. Smith, Jordan Bennett, Jared Brooks, and Corbin Yantiss powered the big inning with RBIs.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Oldenburg Academy collected ten hits and Waldron seven in the high-scoring affair.
The Twisters got things moving in the first inning. Bryce Yarling’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for Oldenburg Academy.
In the sixth inning, the Twisters put up 6 runs. The big inning was thanks to singles by Clay Eckstein and Jacob Cornelius, a sacrifice fly by Jacob Stenger, and a groundout by Alex Sizemore.
Stenger led the Oldenburg Academy to the victory on the hill. The right-hander lasted four innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out ten and walking zero. Eckstein threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Bryce Yarling took the loss for Waldron. The pitcher surrendered two runs on one hit over two innings, striking out five.
Oldenburg Academy racked up ten hits, with Eckstein and Stenger having multiple hits . Eckstein led the Twisters in hits going 3-for-5 at the plate.
The Twisters return to action on Thursday at Rising Sun.
