Update: Overturned tanker forces shut down of US 421 near Napoleon

Ripley County, IN — We have an update to the story of the overturned tanker on US 421 north of Napoleon on Friday.

Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the semi with tanker crash on US 421 near the Ripley/Decatur County line at 5:41 am Friday.

The driver of the semi with tanker, 24-year-old Nathan Lachner, lost control and the vehicle rolled on its side, puncturing the tanker which contained a lime slurry.

The spill was contained to the crash area and US 421 was closed until around 10 am while crews cleaned up the scene.

There were no injuries reported.

Lachner is from Maineville, Ohio.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and TDS Wrecker.
