Greensburg- The North Decatur Lady Chargers took care of business on Thursday night and defeated county rival South Decatur 54-31 to improve to 12-5 (2-0) on the season. The loss drops South to 5-10 (2-2).
Both teams came out of the gate trading tough possessions. Senior Madelyn Bohman grabbed 6 quick points to start the quarter, one coming off a steal, and two more baskets fighting for the offensive rebound. She would end with 11 points on the night. Syndey Rohls would add a rebound basket and Kelsey Haley knocked down a three-pointer from the corner to lead 11-7 after the 1st quarter.
The North offense came alive in the second quarter, outscoring South 25-6. Madi Allen scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in the period. Allen would attack the middle of the Cougar 3-2 zone and find success. She also connected from the outside for a 3-pointer of her own. Kunz added 2 but was hindered by some early foul trouble. Haley buried two more threes in the period. It was 36-13 at the break.
At halftime, the North Decatur Elementary players were recognized for participating in the Charger basketball camp. The girls provided a great atmosphere for the game and are welcome to come back to any game!
North also outscored the Cougars in the 3rd period as they widen their lead. Kunz left her mark in the game, settling down and making three straight post baskets. Clare Kinker connected after great ball movement and buried a 15-foot jumper from the top of the key. It was 52-18 after 3 quarters.
The bench provided most of the minutes in the 4th quarter to close the contest. South would find some offensive success outpacing North 13-2 in the period.
