The treasurer of the Adams Township Fire Department is facing felony charges for allegedly using department funds for personal use.
Laurie Swegman, 47, of Greensburg turned herself in to the Decatur County Jail on Wednesday morning after a warrant was issued from the Decatur Circuit Court.
Authorities say an investigation was launched in October when an internal audit at MainSource Bank in Greensburg revealed some suspicious transactions in the Adams Township Fire account.
Swegman allegedly transferred funds from the department to her personal accounts, or accounts of her children, on 93 different occasions between August 2011 and October 2013.
“Over the two year period those transactions resulted in over $47,000 of those fire department’s funds having been illegally transferred from that account into those of Swegman’s,” ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Noel Houze reported.
Swegman has been charged on two counts of defrauding a financial institution (class C felony). Her current status with the Adams Township Fire Department is unknown.
She was released after posting a $30,000 bond on Wednesday.
Adams Township is located in Northwest Decatur County.
