Greensburg, IN — The Wired Knights robotics team from St. Mary’s School in Greensburg had a very successful season.
On November 12, they competed at Center Grove Middle School in Greenwood against 25 other teams from Central Indiana and finished in first place in both the robot games and robot design categories. This success qualified the team for the Indiana State Robotics Competition.
On December 10, they competed in the Indiana FIRST LEGO League State Championship at the University of Indianapolis. The top 49 teams from around the state competed.
The Wired Knights finished 2nd in the state in the main event, the robot performance games.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen.
The competition includes three presentations: core values, robot design, and a STEM research project.
After a morning of presentations in front of professional judges, all teams compete in head-to-head robot challenges.
The robots are designed, built, and programmed by the team ahead of time, to complete missions on a game field.
The St. Mary’s Wired Knights team members include Sy Nobbe, Luke Schwering, Zachary Roell, and Jacob Roell. The coaches are Rick Kramer and Matt Roell.
