Jennings County, IN — A 12-hour standoff in Jennings County ended Thursday afternoon when the suspect took his life.
Indiana State Police say it started shortly after Midnight when Jennings County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a man wanted on multiple felony warrants was at a home in the western part of the county.
State troopers say 38-year-old Cory Jenkins was armed when he barricaded himself in the home and held four family members hostage.
Troopers and deputies were eventually able to get three family members to safety after they climbed out of one of the home’s windows.
The fourth person inside the home with Jenkins was later allowed to leave.
Deputies and troopers were joined at the scene by two Indiana State Police SWAT Teams, the Jennings County SWAT Team, as well as negotiators.
Over the next 12 hours, negotiators spoke to Jenkins in an attempt to have him leave the residence peacefully.
He was spotted holding a handgun multiple times during the incident.
The standoff ended shortly after Noon when Jenkins took his own life.
Detectives from the ISP-Versailles Post are conducting a death investigation.
