Logjam under railroad trestle catches fire for second time in a week

Laurel, IN –Several fire departments were dispatched over the weekend when a logjam under a railroad trestle over the Whitewater River near Laurel caught fire.

It’s the second time in the past week that the trestle caught fire.

The logjam was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and it took three hours to put out the blaze.

Inspectors checked the trestle’s integrity after the first fire but it’s not clear if it sustained further damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
