Mr. Thomas William “Tom” “Moss” Roy, age 73, of Aurora, Indiana, entered this life on September 19, 1949 in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late, Curtis and Alberta (Rohrig) Roy. He was raised in Milan, Indiana and helped farm and bail hay. Tom was a 1969 graduate of the Milan High School where he played basketball and ran track. Tom was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on October 1, 1969 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He rose to the rank of Private and received the National Defense Service Medal. Tom was honorably discharged on May 13, 1970 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. On June 7, 1969, Tom was united in marriage to Glenda Faye Powell in Switzerland County, Indiana. This happy union was blessed with three daughters, Dorie, Julie and Summer. Tom and Glenda were remarried on December 24, 2015 at their home in Aurora, Indiana. On June 18, 1969, Tom was employed for Thatcher Glass in Aurora, Indiana, retiring on January 23, 2015, after 46 years of service. In the early 1980’s, Tom was an over the road truck driver for two years. He managed the Ohio County Gun Club in Rising Sun for a few years. Tom owned and operated Tom T’s Electric most all of his life. He was a former member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59. He was also a member of the Trap Shooters Association. Tom was baptized in the 1960’s and was a member of the Washington Baptist Church in Elrod, Indiana. Tom was a self-taught handyman and always gave his best. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, golfing and collecting guns and knives. Tom loved watching his grandchildren play sports and watching the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, as well as, IU basketball. Tom will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Tom passed away doing what he loved to do at 4:38 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Vevay, Indiana.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Glenda Faye (Powell) Roy of Aurora, IN; his daughters, Julie Ann Roy and her companion, Larry Sizemore of East Enterprise, IN and Summer Scheffler and her husband, Dean of Rising Sun, IN; his son-in-law, Greg Peelman of Lawrenceburg, IN; his grandchildren, Emilee Abbott (Cameron), Eyan Peelman, Evan Peelman (Alex) and Kaylee White (Kyle); his great-grandchildren, Landyn White and Clayten Toops; his sisters, Rita Williams and her husband, Dave of Fairland, IN and Sheila Banks and her husband, Ron of Carrollton, KY and his several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Roy, died August 19, 1994 and Alberta (Rohrig) Roy, died August 15, 2003; his daughter, Glendora “Dorie” Lynn Peelman, died June 7, 2011; his grandson, Thomas Jeffery “TJ” White, died October 25, 2015; his niece, Lisa Williams and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Renzie M. Powell, Sr., died March 8, 2017 and Elva Mae (Rucker) Powell, died October 30, 2021.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, in the old sanctuary at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 2250 Milton Bear Branch Road, Dillsboro, Indiana 47018.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, by Pastor Pat Lanman, in the old sanctuary at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 2250 Milton Bear Branch Road, Dillsboro, Indiana 47018.
Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, in Bear Branch, Indiana. Full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59.
