From Shelly Prickel, 8th Grade Volleyball Coach:
The BMS 8th Grade Volleyball Team battled Jennings County last night in an epic match. After a slow start in set one, the Lady Dogs rallied from a 5-13 deficit to beat the Panthers 25-23 in the first set.
Jennings County’s strong serve and front line attack put the team out of the system in the second set with the Bulldogs falling 13-25.
In set 3, the difference in the final outcome came down to serve consistency. The Lady Dogs would hit all of their attempted serves to defeat the home team in front of a capacity crowd by the score of 15-14.
Brooke Wilhelm and Catilyn Fox each scored 8 points including 2 aces to lead the team. Alexis Gallagher contributed 5 points with 2 aces, while Mimi Smith had 4 points, none bigger than the match winner in set 3.
Caitlyn Fox and Brooke Wilhelm also led the offensive attack with 5 kills each. Maddie Haskamp knocked in 4 kills including the match winner dink. Ella King had 2 kills, while Leigh Hertel and Katie Wirth each had 1 at the net. Maddie Haskamp and Ella King both had 2 impressive stuff blocks defensively to fire up our fans. Mimi Smith, Leigh Hertel, Eliza Weiler, Madilyn Meyer, and Ella Weber all hustled in the back row receiving their serve and digging the powerful Panther attacks.
It was a team victory with all players contributing in the winning effort. The team remains undefeated at 12-0 with the exciting win and will host Connersville on Thursday in the final home game of the season at the Dog Pound!
