Golden Eagles by one over Shamrocks for boys golf state title

The IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals were held Tuesday and Wednesday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

The 36-hole event was taken by Guerin Catholic who had a four-shot lead over Westfield after day one.  The Shamrocks made a run during day two but fell a stroke short to the Golden Eagles 602-603.

Hamilton Southeastern placed third at 615 while Cathedral and Silver Creek were next at 627 each.

Valparaiso’s Aidan Gutierrez won the individual title in a playoff against Cathedral’s Ryan Ford.  Both players posted a 2-under 142.  Hunter Melton of Carroll and New Castle’s Derek Tabor tied for third with a 1-under 143.

Gutierrez and Tabor had the lowest 18-hole total as both players carded 67 (-5) on Wednesday.
