The Reds avoided a sweep in Toronto by beating the Blue Jays 3-2 Sunday.
Back in his hometown, the Redlegs Joey Votto belted a solo home run high off the right field foul pole in the eighth inning lifting Cincinnati to the one-run victory.
Aristides Aquino was brought back up to the big club and drove in the other two runs on a first-inning double.
Pitcher Graham Ashcraft made his first major league start as the Reds Connor Overton was scratched due to a sore back. Ashcraft had a solid debut going 4-1/3 innings with two earned runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The series opener on Friday saw the Reds fall 2-1 to the Blue Jays.
Toronto scored both runs in the fifth off losing pitcher Luis Castillo. Matt Reynolds drove in the Reds only run in the seventh with one of his three hits in the game.
On Saturday, the Reds dropped a 3-1 decision to the Jays.
Votto’s fourth inning singled plated the Reds only run. All three Toronto runs came on two digers by Bo Bichette.
