For the first time this season, the Reds won a series taking two of three games from Pittsburgh.
In the first game of Saturday’s day/night double header, the Redlegs snapped a nine-game losing streak and beat the Bucs 9-2. Cincy scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-2 tie.
The Reds Tyler Stephenson had three hits with a double and four RBI while Tyler Naquin doubled with three ribbies.
For a second straight outing, Connor Overton pitched well into the sixth inning but, again, did not get a decision. He struck out four and walked none.
In the night game, the Reds fell 8-5 to the Pirates despite a four RBI performance by Brandon Drury. The Cincy third baseman homered and doubled twice.
Mike Moustakas singled and doubled with a run batted in.
Then on Sunday, Cincinnati erased a two-run deficit in the sixth inning when Colin Moran hit a grand slam as part of a five-run frame. The Redlegs went on to win 7-3.
Albert Almora Jr. added two hits to the mix. Art Warren pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win and fanned three.
