The good news is Cinncinnati won’t see San Diego again until 2023. After getting swept earlier on the West Coast by the Padres, SD also closed out the Redlegs at GABP this week.
On Tuesday, Cincy lost 9-6. Reds starter Reiver Sanmartin gave up all nine runs, eight of which were surrendered in the fourth inning where he never recorded an out.
Colin Moran drove in two runs while Nick Senzel homered and singled.
San Diego beat the Reds 8-5 in Wednesday. The Padres four-run, fourth inning against Vladimir Gutierrez was the key frame.
A bright spot pitching for the Redlegs was Phillip Diehl, a Cincinnati native who threw two scoreless and hitless innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
Offensively for Cincinnati, Tommy Pham homered and Kyle Farmer collected four hits with a double and two RBI.
And in the Thursday afternoon finale, the Padres broke the broom out for a second time, downing the Redlegs 7-5. Cincinnati lost a 2-1 lead when San Diego scored four times in the sixth.
Mike Moustakas had two hits and an RBI. Jonathan India, Tyler Naquin, Brandon Drury and Mark Kolozsvary also batted in a run.
The Reds begin a three game series in Colorado tonight (Friday) starting at 8:40 pm. First pitch is 8:10 pm. Listen to the Reds all season long on Country 103.9 WRBI.
