Three Trojans and a Lady Lion awarded IBCA Crawley Scholarships

Three East Central boys basketball players and one Rushville Lady Lion have been named recipients of a Marion Crawley Scholarship from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

East Central’s Cooper Hoog, Casey McQueen and Caleb Mergenthal along with Rushville’s Annika Marlow all received the $750 scholarship.  Only 20 for the entire state were awarded.

Criteria for the Crawley Scholarship includes: achievement in basketball, achievement in academics, participation in extracurricular activities and service to one’s school and community.

Crawley was a former four-time boys basketball state championship coach — two with the Washington Hatchets and two with the Lafayette Jeff Bronchos — who amassed 644 career wins. He later became the first executive director of the IBCA.

We thank Pat McKee of the IBCA and East Central’s David Disbro for the information.
