Mary Ruth Mergenthal, 95, of Batesville, passed away March 3, 2022 at St. Andrews Health Campus. She was born November 5, 1926 to Frank and Luella (Orrell) Mergenthal in Batesville.
Mary spent her earlier years working retail jobs at Telles’ Store in Batesville and Shillito’s and McAlpin’s in Cincinnati. She later held a bookkeeping position at U.S. Playing Card Company in Cincinnati.
It was after she retired that she began her favorite job, as a nanny, for the Weidman family who quickly became her second family. Mary spent many years as a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenwood as well.
She was quick to think of others and often went out of her way to help those around her without asking. In her most recent years, Mary remained the same strong and independent woman everyone knew her to be- always level headed and logical.
Mary enjoyed tending to her flowers, sewing, and embroidering. More than anything, she loved her three poodles.
Mary is survived by her brother, Gene Fasbinder; nieces and nephews, James Mergenthal, Linda Loftus, Curt Mergenthal, Beth Craft, Carol Kirby, Daryl Mergenthal, Sheryl Harmeyer, Laura Bennett, Jone Haney, Stephen Fasbinder, and Sonja Vandagriff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Emmet, Claude, and William Mergenthal; and nieces, Nancy, Claudia, and Sue Ellen Mergenthal.
A visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM with funeral services officiated by Revered Jill Kepler-Campbell beginning at 4:00 PM all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will take place Monday, March 7, 2022 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
Memorials can be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital by bringing to the services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
