GUILFORD, IN — One person was injured and multiple pets were killed in a house fire in the Guilford area Monday afternoon.
The St. Leon Fire Department says crews from several area departments were called to the home on the 6500 block of Stonegate Drive around 2:40 pm Monday for a smoke alarm going off in the residence and found heavy smoke and heat coming from the house.
Crews quickly put out flames in a living room area.
During a search of the home, a woman was found unconscious and rescue was performed.
She was taken to Mercy West Hospital by ambulance and was later transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Her condition is not known.
There were no other humans in the residence, but during the search three dogs were found dead inside the house, which sustained heavy smoke damage.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
In addition to the state fire marshal, St. Leon Fire was assisted at the scene by Bright Fire and EMS, the Miller-York Fire Department, Harrison Ohio Fire and EMS, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office.
