MMH continues to see soaring amount of positive COVID tests

BATESVILLE, IN — Margaret Mary Health (MMH) continued to experience soaring positivity rates last week, with nearly 54-percent of all patients tested at the hospital returning positive for COVID-19.

The overall percentage of hospitalized COVID patients who are unvaccinated continues to trend around 85-percent.

For the week of January 17, COVID-19 inpatient statistics were as follows:

  • Admissions – 14
  • Discharges – 4
  • Transfers – 3
  • Deaths – 2

MMH currently has 26 patients on the Med/Surg floor, with two of those patients in the Special Care Unit.

Fifteen of the patients are COVID-positive and 13 of those patients are not vaccinated. (See charts below for current patient volumes.)

You are urged to avoid going to the Emergency Room for COVID-19 testing. Many people with COVID will have mild symptoms and should rest at home, isolate, take ibuprofen/Tylenol and drink plenty of fluids.

Other patients who may be at a higher risk will experience more moderate symptoms and should call their primary care provider for guidance. Patients with severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, or bluish lips should come to the ER immediately.

The percent of patients testing positive for COVID-19 reached a record high again last week, with 53.8-percent of patients – or 205 in total – testing positive. (See chart for testing details). Those who need to be tested for Covid-19 should contact their primary care provider for an outpatient test to be completed through the hospital lab or schedule an appointment at a local testing site through coronavirus.in.gov. If you have mild symptoms or had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, self-testing at home with an over-the-counter test is also a good option for fast results.

The hospital says those who are not vaccinated or are eligible to receive a vaccine booster shot,  should consider doing so.
