The following are girls high school basketball recaps from January 18 and 20.
In a key ORVC varsity game, Jac-Cen-Del avoided an upset at home against Switzerland County. Trailing 41-36 heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles Annabelle Williams hit the come-from-behind game winner with five seconds left. Her driving bank shot lifted JCD past the Pacers 49-48.
Williams finished with seven points. Aundrea Cullen canned four triples for 12. Jalee Rider scored 10. For the Swiss, Maddie Duvall had a game-high 16 and Nora Hankins followed with 11.
Switzerland County won the JV game 37-32. Both Delaney Hughes and Sophia Sullivan posted seven points for the Eagle reserves.
Franklin County’s varsity defeated Connersville 55-35. It marked the second straight game the Lady Wildcats defeated an opponent by 20 or more points. A 9-0 run to end the second period gave the Brookville gals a 25-14 lead at intermission.
The Wildcats had nine players contribute to the scoring. Twelve were provided by Nicole Mears. Josie Rolfes scored 10 with nine coming on three long balls. And Kassidy Schell turned in nine points.
The FC JV cruised to a 47-15 victory of the Spartans. Bailey Kaiser had a nice game with six steals, four rebounds and 19 points which included five triples.
The Batesville C-team girls lost their final game of the season at East Central 36-18. Lucy Abplanalp led the Lady Bulldog frosh with seven points.
Jac-Cen-Del’s Lady Eagles had no problem with Rising Sun, defeating the Shiners 79-33. JCD led 23-8 after the first quarter.
Annabelle Williams led the Nesters with 20 points, Desiree Sparks scored 12, Olivia Neal put in 11 and Jalee Rider recorded 10. Williams flirted with a triple double as she amassed 10 rebounds and eight assists. The senior also had six steals.
The North Decatur gals beat Milan 57-39. The Charger ladies also got off to a fast start, leading 22-6 after the opening stanza.
ND got 15 points from Madelyn Bohman. Ella Kunz scored 14, Kelsey Haley netted 12 and Madi Allen added eight.
The East Central varsity clinched at least a share of the EIAC championship with a 70-35 doubling of Franklin County. EC can win the conference outright with a victory at Connersville on the 27th.
Hope Fox and Josie Trabel scored 19 and 17 respectively for the Lady Trojans. Fox also had six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
