OA gals get second win at South Decatur

South Decatur’s Kiley Best hits a topside three against Oldenburg. Photo is a still image of South Decatur’s Hudl video.

In our girls varsity basketball broadcast from Saturday, Oldenburg ended a seven-game losing streak, beating South Decatur in Westport 43-40.

Ellie Ryan’s 17 points and 12 from Kate Weber paced the Twisters.  Kiley Best of the Cougars led all scorers with 18.

It was a tight game throughout.  SD led 13-12 after one quarter.  OA went up eight early in the second but held just a 25-24 edge at half, and South Decatur took a 32-29 advantage heading into the final period.

It was Oldenburg’s 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter which was the difference.  Down four, the Cougars did get back to within one, but the Twisters held on to win by three.

While both teams pressed and created their fair share of turnovers (48 total), OA’s pressure was more effective in generating points.

Loryn Pate did not play for South because of a concussion suffered in a car accident.  We wish her the best in her continued recovery.

We thank South Decatur AD Rodney Martin for the accommodations and hospitality along with coaches Eric Feller and Tyler Johnson for the accommodations and hospitality.
