John Edward Hoagland Jr., 77, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021.
He was born on May 1, 1944, to John Edward and Dorothy Mae Hoagland in Indianapolis, IN. John found the love of his life and married Annetta Sue in 1982. The loving couple celebrated 39 years of marriage in September.
John and Sue moved from Brown County to Greensburg IN in 1986 and he was a Purchasing Manager for GECOM Corporation. He began Hoagland and Sons Construction in the year 2000 with his two sons. For retirement, he worked at Tops Home Center where it made his day to help so many people.
Of his jobs, his most enjoyable was being PopPop. John loved the outdoors almost as much as he loved his grandkids. He shared his vast knowledge, experiences, and stories to all. He loved to spend time showing them how to hunt, fish, and camp. He enjoyed taking the grandkids snipe hunting.
John was a life-time member of the Masons and served many roles at the Masonic Lodge 36 in Greensburg. You may have seen him at the county fair serving up those delicious fried donuts or at one of the many pancake breakfasts. He was proud to be a founding member of the Widow Sons Motorcycle Group – Obligated in the Greensburg lodge. He and Sue have been longtime members of Milroy Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue; their blended children, Debbie (Mark) Richards- Waverly IN; Dottie (Rick) Plummer – Whiteland IN; Drenda (Ellen) Smith-Young – Franklin IN; Mary (Vance) Crabtree -Indianapolis IN; Darla (Jeff) Westerfeld – Greensburg IN; Danny (Denise) Smith – Osgood IN; Duane (Wendy) Hoagland– Columbus IN; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan Waymyre.
John was preceded in death by his son, John (Trey) Edward Hoagland III; his sister, Jackie (George) Smallwood; Son-in-law, Vance Crabtree; and his parents.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with Ron Simbro officiating. Burial will follow in Morgantown at East Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Service starting at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
