Farmers Feeding the Flock raises record amount for Bread of Life

Merrill Smith speaks at the Harvest Day Celebration for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life at Hulsbosch Dairy Farm. The Greensburg organization received a record $57,700 corn silage field amount from Farmers Feeding the Flock this year.

DECATUR COUNTY, IN — A record $57,700 was raised this year by Farmers Feeding the Flock for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life soup kitchen.

The announcement was made Friday evening during the organization’s Harvest Celebration at Hulsbosch Dairy Farm in southern Decatur County.

Hulsbosch Dairy Farm was this year’s field sponsor. The family-run business donated a field to Farmers Feeding the Flock.

As in the previous three years of this fundraising effort, other participating farmers came together and donated seed and harvest time.

All money collected from the harvest is donated to Greensburg Community Bread of Life.

“I am just amazed at how people care for each other and they don’t want to see somebody go hungry,” said Melissa Foist with Greensburg Community Bread of Life. “I am overwhelmed at the generosity of this community.”

The following amounts were raised in the previous three years of the harvest:

  • 2018   $25,000
  • 2019   $40,000
  • 2020   $48,000

With this year’s record amount, Farmers Feeding the Flock has raised $170, 700 for Greensburg Community Bread of Life.
