The girls high school basketball season got underway Tuesday and there were a few local teams who tipped off on opening night.
North Decatur garnered a 42-30 victory at home over Franklin County. The Chargers jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter and went on to win by 12. ND saw Madelyn Bohman record 14 points. Madi Allen dialed up 11.
Other scoring for the Chargers: Kacey Barker 8, Ella Kunz 7 and Sydney Rohls 2.
The Wildcats took the JV contest by a handful, 35-30.
South Decatur also picked up a win on opening night at home as the Cougars defeated Milan 44-33. The Westport ladies had a 21-9 edge at the half.
South’s Kiley Best had a game-high 16 points. Laryn Pate added nine. Rachel Holt led the Indians in the loss with 15 points. Teammate Makalee Rivera followed with eight.
The Cougars also won the JV contest 41-16. Makayla Puckett put in a dozen points for the hosts. Autumn Rohrig posted eight for the Milan reserves.
