In a boys soccer EIAC match from Wednesday, East Central cruised to a 9-1 final over Rushville. JT Roden scored five goals for the Trojans. No other stats were available.
Rushville coach Eric Wagner said, “The Lions knew a tough match would ensue as the EIAC Trojans are a top 20 team in the state. Rushville fought hard in 9-1 loss to East Central.”
Coach Wagner also provided these additional details from the match.
The game started sluggish with a wet field due to rain the night before. East Central, who typically plays on turf, didn’t let the conditions affect them and scored a couple goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. One more goal near the end of the half made it 3-0.
The Trojans did not slow down in the second half and came out firing. They buried five more goals in the back of the net making it 8-0. The Lions continued to pass the ball down the field and had five shots on goal in the second half.
“I was satisfied with how we kept competing even when down,” said Wagner. “We continued to look for open teammates and pass the ball leading to some nice crosses and shots on goal. Being able to do this against a very good team like East Central will give us momentum going into the final stretch of our season.”
Near the end of the game, Rushville defender, Nathan Dora, made a nice run down the field into the Trojans penalty box. An aggressive tackle by an East Central defender led to a penalty kick for Dora who crushed it into the top right corner. One more goal by the Trojans made it a 9-1 final.
According to Wagner, the Lions had six shots on goal. Aritz Gomez had two while Carter Tague, Dora, Eli Jobe and Matthew Clark had one each. Goalkeeper Jonathan Starke made 14 saves.
East Central’s JV played against Connersville Thursday and won 3-2. No scoring was available for the Trojans who trailed 1-0 at the half. Spartan JV coach Pastor John Reynolds said Mitchell Steele and Conner Graves scored for the CHS reserves while Lane Wilson had two saves.
We thank coaches Wagner and Reynolds for the information.
