Seton girls soccer edges East Central for second straight season

East Central’s Lady Trojans hosted Seton (OH) for a Saturday soccer match on the turf and under the lights. The Saints, who handed EC its only regular season loss last year, defeated the Trojans again, 4-3.

Michael Tiemann reported East Central scored first when freshman Ellie Hill found the back of the net off a cross from junior Erika Wells in the 9th minute. Then 11 minutes later, EC extended the lead to two with Hill’s second goal of the match. Sophomore Olivia Hopper provided the assist.

Seton answered with its first goal in the 24th minute and then tied the game 2-2 with three minutes left in the first half.

Six minutes into the second half, the Saints struck again, taking a 3-2 lead. The battle continued for almost 30 minutes until sophomore Payge Callahan broke free and found a charging Hopper who chipped in a shot from just outside the 18.  That equalized the game at 3-3.

The match looked to be headed for a tie as the clock was winding down when Seton was awarded a free kick from 30 yards out.  With only 10 seconds left, the Saints quickly set the ball and took a shot that was just out of reach of the EC keeper and won 4-3.

We thank Michael Tiemann for the information.
