Decatur County, IN — Power outages that easily could have lasted for several days ended up being resolved within 48 hours, thanks to the work of a lot of people.
Those are the sentiments of Decatur County REMC (DCREMC) Corporate Relations Manager Rachel Sullivan, who is thanking the local cooperative’s crews for their efforts after last Friday night’s severe storms knocked thousands of customers offline.
Sullivan is also thanking crews from three Northern Indiana co-operatives – Miami-Cass REMC, Marshall County REMC, and Kankakee Valley REMC – for coming in and helping to get power restored. In addition, two retired DCREMC linemen jumped in to help with power restoration efforts.
Sullivan says they also had help from first responders – in particular, the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department for bringing in a rescue boat to help linemen get to a pole that was in a flooded area.
Nearly 4200 customers in the co-operative’s six-county service area were without power at the height of the storm.
Sullivan adds there were no injuries or major incidents from the time service was interrupted Friday night until the power was restored to everyone around 10 pm Sunday.
