A social media tip helped police nab the driver that allegedly fled after causing property damage in Cross Plains on Sunday afternoon.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for a female that they believe operated a tan older model jeep that left the scene of a vehicle accident at the intersection of SR 129 and CR 900S where a heavily damaged car was left as it was parked unoccupied in the victim’s driveway.
Police received information about the driver from a resident who saw Facebook post.
Police identified the driver as a 17-year-old female Milan resident who had left the scene because she feared a driver’s license permit violation.
The driver was apprehended and released to her adult guardians. She could potentially face charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
“Social media, although can be used in the commission of crime, can also be used to catch the criminal, and in this case it worked out perfect as the anonymous source saw a Facebook post and contacted an officer who they trusted. This is a great case of the community and law enforcement coming together for closure,” noted Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills.
