Jacob Mirick threw a shutout to lead The North Decatur Chargers past The South Decatur Cougars 9-0 on Wednesday.
North was boosted by Ried Messer who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Messer singled in the first, doubled in the third, and singled in the fourth. In the first inning, ND got their offense started when Messer singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Chargers scored three runs in the sixth inning. Conner Messer and Mirick all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. A single by Storm in the second inning was a positive for South.
Mirick was the winning pitcher for The Chargers. The southpaw allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out five. Stier took the loss for SD. Stier went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out four.
North saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Messer and Messer all had multiple hits. Messer went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead The Chargers in hits and the team was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Messer had the most chances in the field with five. Messer led the way with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen.
