Joseph M.A. “Joe” Vogel, 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Morning Breeze Nursing Home. He was born February 2, 1935 in Greensburg, Indiana the son of Lawrence and Bernadine (Schoettmer) Vogel.
Joseph graduated from Greensburg High School in 1955. He served in the Army from 1958 through 1960. He worked for Bill and Bob Black building houses for many years. He retired from the carpenter shop at Delta Faucet. Joe was a former member of the Knights of St. John and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. He enjoyed fishing, was a former member of bowling leagues at Parkside Lanes, and was known as “Surfer Joe” at Skateland Roller Skating Rink in Greensburg.
He was married to Mary Anna Collins on April 22, 1961 and she survives.
He is also survived by four children, Phillip (Amanda) Vogel, Westport, Daniel (Shirley) Vogel, Greensburg, Cathy Hastings, Columbus, Mike (Carla Murphy) Vogel, Greensburg; one brother, Kenneth Vogel, North Vernon; 15 grandchildren, Cody, Wade, Austin, Amanda, Samantha, Michael, Maci, Tristin, Mindy, Nathan, Jessie, Destiny, Sarah, Luke, and Andrea; 16 great grandchildren, Gemma, Paisley, Zephrey, Carson, Sawyer, Magnolia, Dalila Lue, Heidi Jo, Serenity, Ariyah, Alison, Naomi, Olivia, Mackenzie, Emma, and Nick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lawrence Henry Vogel, two sisters, Roselyn Westrick and Rose Marie Wells.
Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by the funeral mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg with military graveside rites.
