The Batesville Bulldogs took home a 7-3 victory over The Lawrence North Wildcats on Friday.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the first inning when Riley Zink’s sac fly scored one run for Bulldogs. Eventually, LN tied the game, scoring a run of their own in the third inning. However, Batesville pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Sam Voegele doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and Jack Grunkemeyer singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
Batesville’s biggest inning was in the fifth when the Bulldogs put up three runs. Batesville’s batters contributing to the big inning included Voegele and Zach Wade, all knocking in runs in the inning.
After The Wildcats scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Coby Stephens, the Bulldogs answered with one of their own. The Bulldogs answered when Max Baumer singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Will Habig (3-0) was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. The right-hander went four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out four, and walking zero. Bauer and Trey Peters entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Owen Quinn took the loss for Lawrence North. Quinn surrendered three runs on two hits over three and third innings, striking out three.
Calvin Sherwood led the Bulldogs with two hits in three at-bats.
The win against LN brings the Bulldogs’ record to 9-4 with an EIAC record of 4-2. The Wildcats drop to 7-4. Batesville looks to win their fourth game in a row as they travel to Greensburg to take on the Pirates in the EIAC matchup on Monday.
