The Franklin County Varsity Softball team picked up their first conference victory of the season on Monday night defeating the Lawrenceburg Tigers by a score of 6-5. It was a great game to watch with a lot of hard hits, great pitching, and fantastic defense on both teams.
Lawrenceburg grabbed the lead in the top of the first, and then after that the game was a pitching duel for both teams. KK Ferman and Courtney Sauntry kept both teams in check and were hanging zeros until the Wildcats were able to tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd at 1 when Kassidy Schell drove in Maci Lake on a double to right field.
Franklin County’s big inning came in the bottom of the fourth when they put up four runs in one swing of the bat. Camryn Brewer’s return to the lineup from injury couldn’t have been scripted more beautifully as she launched her first hit of the season over the center field wall for a grand slam! With that swing the Wildcats seemed to be in control at 5-1.
Lawrenceburg would not go away as they battled back in the top of the 5th inning to tie it at 5-5. Then Franklin County would take the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th as Bree Bischoff singled home Josie Rolfes for the go ahead run to put the Wilcats up 6-5. Then KK Ferman and the Wildcats defense would hold the Tigers in their last two at bats to grab the win.
