Landon Dale Smith

Landon Dale Smith, 85, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away Wednesday March 3, 2021 in Cincinnati, OH.

He was born June 28, 1935 in Aurora, IN, son of the late Lester L Smith and Helen (Payton) Smith.
Landon served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very patriotic, loved his country, and highly respected his fellow Veterans.

He worked as a Machinist for Seagram’s Distillery, retiring after over 30 years of service. Prior to Seagram’s, he was well known for his years at Schwanholt’s Filling Station. Landon attended Trinity Christian Center in Lawrenceburg, IN, where he faithfully played the piano for 35 years. His faith was very important to him. He walked his life serving the Lord, and wanted others to know Him too. He was a member of Aurora American Legion, Aurora Moose Lodge, former member of Hillforest Historical Foundation and the Tucker Car Club. Landon was inducted into the Southeastern Indiana Music Hall of Fame in 2012. He was an accomplished pianist. He performed two benefit concerts to raise money for the American Cancer Society to honor his loving wife Della. He used to play gigs with his fellow musicians Bob Linkmeyer, the late Henrietta Linkmeyer, and the late George Smith and others. Landon also enjoyed Karaoke, antique cars, building model cars and airplanes. Landon didn’t know a stranger. He loved spending time with friends at Aurora Country Kitchen, then Steak ‘n Shake, and now they congregate at the Aurora Diner. He met daily at McDonald’s with his cousin Fuzzy” Meyer along with other friends. Landon’s passions were his faith, family, country, and friends. He had a special place in his heart for children, especially his grandchildren. He was loved for the kindness that he showed to others and will be greatly missed.

Landon is survived by daughters, Deborah “Debbie” (Barry) Kern of Greendale, IN, Lucinda “Cindy” (Tom) Pruss of Aurora, IN; brothers, Bill (Hertha) Smith of Florence, KY, Wayne (Joyce) Smith of Huntsville AL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Erica) Neff of Florence, KY, Michael Pruss of Dillsboro, IN, Jordan (fiance, Jori) Pruss of West Chester, OH; great-grandchildren, Cameron Pruss, Kayla Pruss and Soren Neff. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Della (Carr) Smith; parents Lester L Smith and Helen (Payton) Smith.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday, March 8, 2021, at 5:00pm at Trinity Christian Center, 18687 Pribble Rd, Lawrenceburg, IN. with Pastor Corey Potts officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.at the church following the service. Services will be followed by a time of food and fellowship at the church.
