School mask mandate becomes controversial

Batesville, IN —Petitions are currently being signed both for and against the Mask Mandate that was implemented recently by the Batesville Community School Corporation. BCSC created a back-to-school document titled “Batesville Blueprint” as a guide to what re-entry to the school year would look like. As Paul Ketcham, Superintendent of BCSC stated “This is a fluid document and changes are to be expected as they go along.”
The first of those changes was adding the mandate that all students and staff are to wear masks throughout the school day. Parents are to send students to school with a mask or face shield. Masks or face shields must be worn on the bus, while traveling in hallways or visiting restrooms, indoor or outdoor recess, while working one-on-one, with a partner, or during small and large group instruction.
Understanding that it is difficult to wear a mask all day, teachers will allow and encourage structured times when students may take their face coverings off.
