Maurice Bostic Wolford passed away peacefully at Morning Breeze on April 4, 2020. Born February 18, 1927 to Walter and Bonnie Florine (Bostic) Wolford in Decatur County, and they preceded him in death.
Maurice attended New Point School, joining the Navy before his senior year and serving during World War II with his brothers, Donald and Merrill Wolford. In 2002, he received an Honorary High School Diploma from the Indiana State Board of Education in recognition of his military service during World War II. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the New Point Stone Co. and then Contractors United retiring in 1990.
He was an active member of the New Point Christian Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder. Maurice loved his church and his church family.
He also belonged to the New Point Masonic Lodge and was a Past Master. For years he served as a Boy Scout Leader and coached many little league baseball teams.
After his retirement, you could find Maurice in his woodshop creating toy chests, rocking horses, step stools and other pieces of fine furniture that he generously bestowed on lucky family members and friends. He also enjoyed playing golf with his family, especially his son, Danny.
On March 24, 1949 he married Dorothy Louise Lawrence and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2016. Maurice and Dorothy had four children: Sandy (Bill) Pratt, Danny (Barbara) Wolford, Tim Wolford and Ron (Kim) Wolford. Maurice and Dorothy were blessed with several grandchildren: Scott (Delana) Pratt, Christy Pratt Beaver, Anisha (John) Tischer, Josh (Jaime) Wolford, Carrie (Bryce) Chapman, Heidi Wolford, Luke Wolford and Emma Wolford. Also survived by great grandchildren: Kevin, Jude and Maurice (Reece) Beaver, Timothy (Ty) and Kameron Pratt, Ella, Josie and Liza Tischer, Myles, Blake and Skye Wolford and Ruby, Neve and Bostic Chapman. After his God, his family was his priority.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Tim and Ron; brothers, Donald and Merrill; and brother-in-law Jim Lawrence. He is survived by brothers-in-law, Gerald (Dot) Lawrence, Paul (Janet) Lawrence, and Mervin (Agatha) Lawrence; and sister-in-law Patty Lawrence. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held for the immediate family on Wednesday, April 8 at Rossburg Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:30 am at the New Point Christian Church with Rev. Mark Vice officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life observing CDC guidelines and precautions.
