Dearborn and Decatur Counties—Both the Decatur County Community School Corporation and the Sunman Dearborn School Corporation release letters to the parents this week outlining the upcoming school year. In the last few weeks, Indiana public schools have received guidance on how all school districts can safely reopen for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Indiana’s Consideration for Learning and Safe Schools, or IN-CLASS, is a 38-page document released by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), the Indiana General Assembly (IGA), along with guidance and input from the Governor’s office. This document was created to help school districts plan and prepare to start school safely in the fall.
Dr. Jarrod Burns, Superintendent for DCCSC stated that school will start on time on Thursday, August 6 and will be a 5-days-a-week program, but that the school would also offer a comprehensive 100% online option for students if parents believe their child should not return to school in person.
The Sunman Dearborn Community School Corporation released information earlier this week with a similar option. Dr. Andrew Jackson stated that a robust, comprehensive, and full-time
online option for students and parents is available though the plan is pending the School Board’s approval. School will start on Wednesday, August 5th for Sunman-Dearborn students. Dr. Jackson also noted that registration online begins Monday through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Online registration is required for all parents and students. If you are unable to register online from home, internet and computer access will be provided for parents during Book Days.
Traditional student registration is still scheduled for July 29th and July 30th from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM and July 31st from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
