James S. Hofer, 90, Blooming Grove

 

James S. Hofer, age 90, of Blooming Grove died Sunday morning August 25, 2019 at his residence.

Born July 17, 1929 in Brookville, Indiana he was one of six children born to the late Harry & Dora (Biere) Hofer.  On April 7, 1951 he and the former Alice Faye Banning were united in marriage, and she survives.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the 434TH Engineer Construction Battalion in Korea.

Jim was retired from the former Ford/Visteon in Connersville, Indiana where he had been employed for over 31 years.  He also farmed in Franklin County for most of his life.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a past director of the Fayette Union REMC for over 15 years, served on the board of the Franklin County Farm Bureau Co-Op Association for 4 years; the Livestock Committee for the Franklin County 4-H Fair; and was one of the early members of the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides Faye, his loving wife of over 68 years survivors include five children and their spouses, Diane & Mark Singer, Beth & Joe Caudill, Rick & Nikki Hofer, Jeff & Cindy Hofer, Tim & Tami Hofer all of Brookville, Indiana; three sisters, Wilma Hayward of Elkhart, Indiana, JoAnn Dabney of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marjorie Dorrel of Medina, Ohio, one brother, Charles Hofer of Brookville, Indiana; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Todd Hofer who died April 17, 1987; a brother, Bill Hofer, two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hofer and Lottie Hofer, and a brother-in-law, Dean Hayward.

Family & friends may visit from 4 till 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Rev. Steve Rundel & Rev. Sue Cartee will officiate the Funeral Services on Friday, August 30, 2019, 10:30 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville.  Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
