Franklin County picked up a road non-conference win over CC Lincoln on Friday night 11-1. Joe Fields, Augustus Runyon and Dalton Durbin all contributed offensively with 2 hits, while Tommy Ratz and Alex Bischoff chipped in with 2 RBI’s.
On the mound, Evan Ariens started and went 2 2/3’s of an inning due to pitch restrictions. Jimmy Disney came in to pitch 3 1/3rd innings before Brady Brandenburg came on in the 7th. Wildcat pitching gave up just 2 hits on the day.
With a win on Saturday over Rushville, along with a Batesville win over South Dearborn later that night, Franklin County won a share of the EIAC Title, their second title in two years after winning the league outright last season.
Despite falling behind early, FC found their offense in the middle innings, posting 2 runs in each the 4th and 5th innings before putting up 4 runs in the 6th. Alex Bischoff led the way with 3 hits, while Joe Fields and Garrett Ertel each had 2 hits. The big hit of the day came with bases loaded when Ertel sent one off the left field fence for a double while scoring 2 runs.
Joe Fields started the game on the mound, going 5 and 2/3rd innings to get the win. With two guys on and 2 outs in the 6th, Evan Ariens was brought on to get FC out the a jam. After a base hit, Ariens struck the next batter out to keep the lead at 3. In the 7th, Bischoff came in to close the game. After striking out 20 Lions on Monday night, Bischoff struck 2 of the 3 batters out he faced on Saturday to secure the win.
FC finishes the conference season with a 9-5 record and overall record of 11-6. Next for FC is Sectional play. Franklin County will play South Dearborn at South Dearborn on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
